Shiga Kogen is one of Japan’s largest ski areas made up of 18 interlinked ski resorts that offer a smorgasbord of options including beginner slopes, long cruisers, challenging moguls and powder bowls. One lift ticket gives you access to more than 50 lifts, gondolas and ropeways! The area is also close to some of Japan’s cultural sites with the opportunity to experience something of Japan’s rich traditions.

All the Shiga Kogen ski resorts use an electronic lift pass system meaning the one lift pass will give you access to all lifts and gondolas in the Shiga Kogen Resort area. There is limited night skiing available.
Shiga Kogen Ski Resort is 4.5hrs from Narita airport. Getting there requires a little bit of extra maneuvering though since taking a bus or the bullet train up to Nagano will need to be followed up with a taxi to your accommodation. Taking a pre-booked private or share taxi from the airport is a good option if you want to avoid the hassle.
Shiga Kogen is a very traditional Japanese style resort where the majority of accommodations provide in-house restaurants and dining. There are a few public restaurants and bars and izakayas around the villages. The nightlife is very low key as most people tend to eat, drink, socialise and relax in their accommodation.
